Visa dreams – a funny Brexit Clerihew poem

funnypoem2

The poem is a light humor on software engineer’s ply on the recent Brexit decision.

A Clerihew is a comic verse consisting of two couplets and a specific rhyming scheme, aabb invented by Edmund Clerihew Bentley (1875-1956) at the age of 16. The poem is about/deals with a person/character within the first rhyme. In most cases, the first line names a person, and the second line ends with something that rhymes with the name of the person.

Hug me tight – a Katauta poem

Hug in rain

Embraced bare in rain

Head on his chest, drops trickled

Heard my name beat in, धक धक

The Katauta is an unrhymed japanese form consisting of 17 or 19 syllables. The poem is a three-lined poem the following syllable counts: 5/7/5 or 5/7/7.

The Katauta form was used for poems addressed to a lover. A single katauta is considered incomplete or a half-poem, however, a pair of katautas using the syllable count of 5,7,7 is called a sedoka.

Unnoticed Yet Necessary – A Poem

hands

He looked into my eyes

Red, swollen, unslept

I tried to smile

Memories of erstwhile

I’d leave him long back already

But he stood unnoticed but necessary

He saw me move & saw me fall

He saw me fail & saw me crawl

I’d leave him long back already

Still he stood unnoticed but necessary

Today I met him yet again

My cold hands he held in rain

Many a came in the meanwhile

None a steady hand or glory to stand high

I’d leave him long back already

Yet he stood unnoticed but necessary

A look at him a lot he changed

His arms now stronger and

the hair I liked longer

Not heeding my tears asked I

Reason for waiting and the why

As I’d leave him long back already

Why he stood unnoticed but necessary

“Ananya” the first word I heard

That moment for me the world blurred

“Many did come and pass by

And you ask me I stay why

All wanted you as silent wind

None could handle your heart’s stormy cry

I knew the waves come to kiss the shore

I can handle your heart’s storm core

Yes, you did leave me long back already

You my love, reason for me to remain unnoticed yet necessary

You my treasure, reason for me to remain unnoticed yet necessary.”

I Am That Woman

I pen this poem as a gratitude to all women and the respective roles they play. PM Modi in this address to all women said that women with the varied responsibilities we have and the awesome managers we are, we need no empowerment and who are men to empower someone who is already empowered. So with that thought, I wish all my friends a very happy women’s day.

Guard Your heart – A Triolet poem

trust poem

Tried my hand at Triolet. A Triolet is a poetic form consisting of only 8 lines. Within a Triolet, the 1st, 4th, and 7th lines repeat, and the 2nd and 8th lines do as well. The rhyme scheme is simple: ABaAabAB, capital letters representing the repeated lines. Hope you like it 🙂

Love More, Expect Still

I see relationships everywhere. Every communication has a potential to be a relationship. That’s how relationships start don’t they? Some mode of exchange…Virtual ….Real! these days virtual more than real. When I met Laura she was uneasy, occupied and not the fun filled friend I always meet. On prodding a bit she burst like a bubble, among the many things she said some really bit me hard. I am not a person to get into personal details so I just let her speak what she felt like sharing.

“Was my understanding of love wrong? Wasn’t love about trust, unwavering, unfaltering trust?” Laura broke into words after a sob.

“Yes it is” I comforted.

“What if it is broken? Not once or twice but many times over?” she looked at me with a question.

“It depends Laura, if you feel it would happen again, you can redeem that trust, but if you think you can let that go, you can try.” I held her hand.

She nodded, “ I agree.” “Do I expect more? Is my understanding of love different?”

It touched me the most. Love doesn’t let you question yourself and your being on such basic, fundamental things and here she was trying to get MY opinion on HER love.

Love is beautiful, it’s ways are different but Love isn’t different. For a couple working in shifts, seeing a postit on the fridge saying, ‘Dinner together outside, rest this evening’ is love. For my parents my pa making morning tea for my ma is love, it is different for all.

“No Laura, noone’s understanding of Love can be wrong or different. It needs to match the same chords as the partner which will play a melody. Expectation, well I am a person who expects but only from those who understand me. And I would never change that expectation of communication of love, that expression of togetherness, in this face paced world it is even more important.” I paused.

“What love isn’t ….is a set of conditions, dos and don’t of a relationship and if that creeps in then it is just a word with no emotions. So don’t change any of yourself and Love More and Expect Still. Hope and Faith bring back loved ones. Love more Expect still

Her eyes met mine and it conveyed easier said than done. True but Love isn’t Fast Food Either!
