Love More, Expect Still

I see relationships everywhere. Every communication has a potential to be a relationship. That’s how relationships start don’t they? Some mode of exchange…Virtual ….Real! these days virtual more than real. When I met Laura she was uneasy, occupied and not the fun filled friend I always meet. On prodding a bit she burst like a bubble, among the many things she said some really bit me hard. I am not a person to get into personal details so I just let her speak what she felt like sharing.

“Was my understanding of love wrong? Wasn’t love about trust, unwavering, unfaltering trust?” Laura broke into words after a sob.

“Yes it is” I comforted.

“What if it is broken? Not once or twice but many times over?” she looked at me with a question.

“It depends Laura, if you feel it would happen again, you can redeem that trust, but if you think you can let that go, you can try.” I held her hand.

She nodded, “ I agree.” “Do I expect more? Is my understanding of love different?”

It touched me the most. Love doesn’t let you question yourself and your being on such basic, fundamental things and here she was trying to get MY opinion on HER love.

Love is beautiful, it’s ways are different but Love isn’t different. For a couple working in shifts, seeing a postit on the fridge saying, ‘Dinner together outside, rest this evening’ is love. For my parents my pa making morning tea for my ma is love, it is different for all.

“No Laura, noone’s understanding of Love can be wrong or different. It needs to match the same chords as the partner which will play a melody. Expectation, well I am a person who expects but only from those who understand me. And I would never change that expectation of communication of love, that expression of togetherness, in this face paced world it is even more important.” I paused.

“What love isn’t ….is a set of conditions, dos and don’t of a relationship and if that creeps in then it is just a word with no emotions. So don’t change any of yourself and Love More and Expect Still. Hope and Faith bring back loved ones. Love more Expect still

Her eyes met mine and it conveyed easier said than done. True but Love isn’t Fast Food Either!

Priceless Moments

Priceless MomentsTried my hand at a new poetry form called Minute Poetry. The Minute Poem is rhyming verse form consisting of 12 lines of 60 syllables written in strict iambic meter. The poem is formatted into 3 stanzas of 8,4,4,4; 8,4,4,4; 8,4,4,4 syllables. The rhyme scheme is as follows:aabb, ccdd, eeff. Have tried to fit in the syllables taking some liberties in order to maintain the mood of the poem theme.

Happiness – A Haiku

Happiness - A haikuHaiku Rules:

An unrhymed Japanese poem recording the essence of a moment. Nature is combined with human nature. It usually consists of three lines of 5/7/5 (5 kana in the first line, 7 kana in the second line, and 5 kana in the third line) totaling seventeen kana.

A foreign adaptation of 1, usually written in three lines totaling 17 syllables or LESS.

Haiku is not written in the past, nor does it cover a long period of time.

Haiku usually contains a season word (called kigo). It is not a requirement, but season words are a big part of haiku.

Personal note: while I ain’t a pro at Haiku, I find some  Haiku’s written devoid of anything to do with seasons or nature. While it may be completely a poet’s liberty and rightly so I personally find Haiku’s with a comparison of nature and human nature beautiful.

Welcome the Storm

Welcome the Storm

T’was us t’was me and you

You promised me all my dreams come true

You promised me sunshine in winters

And be by me like autumn dew

I in turn stood by you in dusk and dawn

Took a thorny path of no return

We saw together the coming storm

I am sure you did protect me with no harm

When the storm hit me, I looked for your hand

Nowhere was your presence left me disdained

I faced the storm alone and strong

It taught me lessons of my wrong

You responded to none, my pain and my cries

Now all I wait is for this time to fly

All I look for now is strong commitment

One day, yes I wait for the day to get over this disenchantment.

We met after an age determined
‘Twas an ocean of emotions within
Both led on a path the universe loathed
What were we but lovers star crossed?

We drenched in rain and enjoyed mountain breeze
And played through pastures and the maple trees
We gained less and more we lost
Did we know we were lovers star crossed?

We trode troublous with a dream ‘twill change destiny
We’d live in eternal love and harmony
What fools were we, can destiny be changed at all
Forgot that we were lovers star crossed

Injured, hurt in search of twilight we accepted defeat
Like the parallel lines walk together but never can meet
E’vry star around happy as we exhaust
After all we were the chosen lovers star crossed

Now we are away and do all that is right
Not heeding to the earth that misses the sun at night
Accept it and say to each other
My Love, we keep the tryst for life another.

With the Sun, Moon and Stars agleam
Love and live for a united dream
The sparrows and the cuckoos singing eloquent vespers
Alas we sha’nt be lovers star crossed

This is my very very humble attempt to pay a small tribute to the great work of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The term star crossed lovers was first coined in this epic work. To read more star crossed lovers

English Translation

Heartbroken beats scattered

Teary eyes, heaves and sobs

Trembling hands, tongue shudders

Emotions weak, legs quiver

Then the eyes meet

His form nebulous

Providing strength fathomless

He smiled pain within

She smiled too hurt hidden

Some relations are incognito

Unconditional, pious, undefined hitherto

Their value unfathomed

Neither the world nor they for each other made.
